Rachel Pleis – Camp Director
Rachel Pleis is excited to return for her third year as a Camp Director! Rachel is a Southern California transplant, being born and raised in Ventura County. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from UC-San Diego, but was most inspired by the coursework in her two minors, Public Service and Education Studies, and so she decided to pursue a career in Science education. Following her graduation from UCSD, she began a Masters program in Education at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. As part of her Master’s program, Rachel spent two years teaching middle school science at an inner city school in New Orleans, Louisiana through the Americorps program. In addition to receiving her Master’s degree, she received her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Biological Sciences through the program. Before moving to Northern California, Rachel returned to San Diego where she gained experience as a third grade homeroom teacher. She currently teaches science for Fourth through Eighth grades at a school in Saratoga. Additionally, Rachel is working on her Doctorate in Organization and Leadership, as well as her Administrative Credential, at the University of San Francisco. In her free time, she enjoys coaching girl’s basketball, advising her school’s robotics team, and spending time with her dog, Ernie, and her cat, Diego, while exploring Northern California.
Camp Edventure More’s vision and mission are very important to me because I love seeing children have fun and learn at the very same time. I am excited to be a catalyst for Camp Edmo and Camp EdTech’s vibe and meet the campers who are inspired to learn, have fun, and be a part of a great summer experience!”

This is our first ever camp experience and you have set a high bar. Your program is fun and educational. What I love most is your staff. They are super energetic, knowledgeable, and nice! Rachel, the director, is approachable and always available. Love her high energy and smiles! I have no doubt that my child is well cared for while at Camp Edmo.”
At camp pickup on Tuesday, my daughter was so excited to tell me how she used glow sticks “to paint her name in light”. This was a huge discovery for her. Thank you for making real things kid-friendly. You have figured out the “cool-factor”, so important with pre-teenagers.”
My daughter was given the privilege this week of giving a toast/speech about water (to encourage the kids to drink more). During the ride home from camp, she told me about it and asked for some paper and a pen. I gave that to her and she spent the rest of the way home figuring out what she was going to say…My daughter just bubbled with enthusiasm from that experience and I loved the fact that the Los Altos Edmo staff and campers gave her such a safe and happy environment to express herself in a positive way.”
We have had the best experience at Camp Edmo this summer! Your staff is so welcoming and enthusiastic – and not just on the first day, but every single day. Every morning we walked up to the entrance, it never failed that one of the counselors yelled out my daughter’s name, welcoming her to the day ahead. ;) Thank you.”
