2012 Camp Edmo and Camp EdTech Staff

Come back in the Spring to meet all of our 2012 Summer Staff

Love our weekly sessions? Wait until you meet our staff!

It’s quite an accomplishment to make it onto the Camp Edmo staff team. With less than 10% of applicants making it through our recruiting, hiring and training process, you know that only the best of the best wear the word “STAFF” on the back of their camp shirt. Our summer staff is comprised of both standout returning staff and applicants from our museum partners, top universities from around the country, specialty graduate school programs and like-minded educational organizations. See what it takes to make it onto the Camp Edmo staff team.

Camp Directors

You know that big yellow sun on our logo? That’s them. They are that big ball of energy that inspires curiosity, confidence and kindness in kids and team members alike. And it’s no small feat to become a Camp Director. After a thorough interview and hiring process, each Camp Director goes through over 100 hours of training. They start in February, with sessions that focus on recruiting and managing staff, safety and social intelligence, quality “camper family” service, curriculum, database management, leadership, and diversity. Camp Directors also meet weekly with co-founder Sharon Mor to focus on areas for personal and professional growth. They are trained to be managers and developed to be leaders.

Instructors

All our Instructors are credentialed teachers or college graduates with a contagious enthusiasm for learning. Talk about something you won’t mind your kids catching! A majority of our Instructors are on a path to become the next Teacher of the Year in California’s schools. They transform a typical classroom into an adventurous environment filled with  “WOW” and “A-HA” moments. As part of their interview process, each Instructor leads a fun, hands-on lesson for our recruiting team…and our interviewers can play a mean 3rd grader! If they get hired, each Instructor receives over 50 hours of  in-person training by the museum partners who designed the curriculum as well Edventure More on how to encourage curiosity, confidence and kindness in the way they lead activities.

Counselors

Counselors are the kind of college folks you want your child to look up to…and not just because they’re taller. These artists, athletes, scientists and honor students spend the entire week with your kids. They know your child’s name, favorite hobby, and why they want to be an entomologist when they grow up. We see our Counselors as the next generation of leaders who spark curiosity, kindness and confidence in kids through inquiry-based learning and collaboration. Each of our Counselors receives a minimum of 20 hours of training in group management, conflict resolution, outdoor recreation and helping lead hands-on activities. They also identify personal and professional goals for the season and the Camp Director works with them to help reach those goals with regular observations and feedback. In addition to being Counselors, each day they play the role of Friend Maker, Ouchie Healer, Water Day Hero, Costume Day Conspirator, and Every Day Role Model for your child.

Counselors-in-Training (CITs)

Counselors-in-Training  (CIT) are junior high or high school students looking to build leadership and child development skills in themselves…and rockets, slime and pickle batteries with our campers. CITs develop personally and professionally in the Camp Edmo environment. We give them a chance to be of service, to cultivate strengths they may not have known, and to lay the foundation for leadership positions in the future. CITs gain community service hours, an Accomplishment Report, a letter of recommendation, and a network of support in the enrichment field.

Keep an eye out for familiar faces from all of our staff positions – you just might be looking at a camper turned CIT turned Counselor turned Instructor!

In order to provide the safest and most attentive service possible, we maintain an 8:1 camper to staff ratio during most camp activities. For Pre-K—entering 1st grade campers the ratio can be 6:1 or even better.
