Entering 2nd – 4th Grade
Our Camp Edmo Arts & Science program, Animation program and Edmo in the Park camp keep entering 2nd-4th grade campers’ minds and bodies active all summer long. Earth science, physical science, fine arts, technology, nature…we’ve got it all! Our hands-on activities are designed by Edventure More in partnership with the California Academy of Sciences, Children’s Creativity Museum and the Museum of Children’s Art. Every day includes Outdoor Recreation and Life Skills building activities to encourage “The Edmo Vibe” of curiosity, confidence and kindness.
What We Recommend: With so many great choices, it’s hard to decide what not to do! We’re fans of balance. Find at least 2 Arts & Science weeks and 2 Animation weeks that excite your child. Then add Edmo in the Park in July or August to round out a perfect summer.
Camp Edmo: Arts & Science Program
Hosted on local school campuses June – early August
Our Arts & Science program is built around four kid-friendly weekly themes. Every day campers rotate through one-hour stations of Arts & Science, Outdoor Recreation and Team Time that relate to the theme. We personally test each activity for maximum “Wow Factor.” If we don’t get tickled pink doing it, you won’t see it at camp.
Our projects are fantastic, but it’s our highly trained and well-costumed staff that bring them to life. These college-graduate Instructors & college student Counselors have a contagious enthusiasm for learning. Talk about something you don’t mind your kids catching! Kids learn you don’t need to wear a lab coat to be a scientist. You don’t have to live in a tiny studio in France to be an artist. Art and science are all around us, and with a little imagination and a dash of silliness, learning suddenly feels a whole lot like playing.
My sons LOVE Camp Edmo and find it very engaging and enriching. I love that it adds an academic and artistic component that lots of camps don’t have – and in a very fun way. This year, camp was even more engaging and introduced the kids to a higher level of art and science than they had known. They’ve loved it and I’m thrilled at what they’ve learned.”…Michelle G., 3rd, St. Cecilia

Camp Edmo: Animation Program
Hosted on local school campuses June – early August
In our Animation program, entering 2nd-4th graders turn their imaginations into animations. Animators invent silly characters, strange plots and funny scripts. They build their actors, sets and add voice overs and sounds effects. The weekly theme guides the story, but a different Toy, Clay, Comic, or Blob stopmotion technique is emphasized each week. When they’re not working on latest stopmotion software and MacBook laptops, they’re outside in their Recreation or Team Time station for a perfectly balanced day.
Beyond the technology, what really makes animation possible at this age are our college-graduate Instructors and college student Counselors. With unwavering patience, they teach kids to work as a team, compromise with each other and come up with creative solutions to the challenges of making movie magic.
My daughter enjoyed her week in animation so much last year, that we came back this year and enrolled in a week of art and science, a week of animation, and now two weeks of Edmo in the Park.”…Angela O., 3rd Grade Parent

Take a look at some great projects our campers created at camp last summer.
Edmo in the Park
Hosted in local or regional parks July – late August
($25/wk Field Trip Fee for ent. 2-4th grade campers)
Edmo in the Park is hosted in local or regional parks from July – late August. We customize each weekly Arts & Science theme depending on the geography, history, nature, and local ecosystem of the region. Older campers (entering 2nd-4th grade) also participate in our Field Trip program three days per week.
Onsite Program (Mon & Fri): While at the park, entering 2nd-4th grade campers spend the day outdoors on nature hikes, completing Arts & Science projects, playing organized recreation games, doing ®Let’s Go Chipper nature activities or engaging in presentations.
Field Trip Program (Tue – Thu): Two to three times per week, our lucky entering 2nd—4th grade campers go on weekly adventures to local museums, businesses or organizations that relate to each theme. Not a bad way to spend your last days of summer break, right?
Of course, many of our Edmo traditions follow us to the park. Kids still play the The Edmo Vibe Game, start and end the day with ridiculous rallies and Mo the Monkey, our camp mascot is always hanging around. Just try keeping him out of a park…it’s impossible.
My daughter enjoyed her week in animation so much last year, that we came back this year and enrolled in a week of art and science, a week of animation, and now two weeks of Edmo in the Park. She loves the field trips with Edmo in the Park.”…Angela O., 3rd Grade Parent

How do you group the children at Edmo in the Park?
Campers are divided into two groups, K-1st graders and 2nd–4th graders with each groups’ activities based on their age level
How does Edmo in Park differ from our regular Camp Edmo program?
Edmo in the Park includes several unique features such as the park location vs. school campus, more regional nature/history/geography focus and field trips for entering 2nd-4th graders.
Does Edmo in the Park offer an Extended Day?
Yes we do! AM Care runs from 8 am – 9 am and costs $30/week. PM Care runs from 3 pm – 6 pm and costs $60/week. AM/PM Care can also be purchased on an hourly basis with a rate of $10/hour. You can add AM or PM Care when you enroll or just notify your Camp Director the day you need it. AM/PM Care is 50% off when you sign up for 3+ weeks of camp!
What does a typical Edmo in the Park day look like?
For our entering K-1st grade campers: Edmo in the Park follows a similar structure to our regular Camp Edmo program. K-1st grade campers participate in a daily rotation of hands-on Arts & Science and Recreation and Team Time activities.
For 2nd-4th grade campers: Each day has a different focus. Monday and Friday Campers will rotate through Science, Art and Recreation activities. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, campers leave our site for a field trip or excursion.
What type of transportation will the kids be using on their field trips?
We have chartered buses to comfortably and safely transport campers from one place to another around the Bay.

Are there Field trips? Who goes and when?
Our 2nd-4th grade campers go on two field trips off site each week. Each weekly session includes a trip within the area and a special field trip that correlates to the weekly theme. Most field trips return to the park by 2:30 pm. For field trips that get back later (like baseball games) parents will be notified of late pick up.
Does my child have to go on field trips?
The 2nd-4th grade program involves many field trips. If there is a field trip you do not wish your child to attend, we may have space for them to stay with the younger group. We suggest you confirm this with the Edventure More home office at 415.282.MORE (6673) in advance.
Who is the staff for Edmo in the Park?
Edmo in the Park is led by some of our rock star Camp Directors. The counselor team is comprised of our best Staff Members and Camp Directors – an all star Edmo team! Click on the staff link for the location nearest you to see exactly who will be at camp this summer.
Is Edmo in the Park safe?
Just like at Camp Edmo, we maintain an 8:1 ratio between campers and staff. A first aid and CPR trained adult is on site at all times. Campers also sign in and out every day are only released to adults you specify on your enrollment forms. Camper are given a bright green t-shirt and wear bright orange bandanas all day. This makes them easily distinguishable at all times.
What happens in bad weather?
Although some of our locations have protected areas in case it’s cold or wet outside, we usually advise parents to pack sweatshirts for their children so that they are prepared when the temperature is cool. There are also protected areas at each of the different field trip locations that our older campers will be visiting.
At camp, kids build what some call “21st Century Life Skills” and others call “character.”
We call it the “Edmo Vibe.”
Curiosity
When kids get curious, they want to learn more. They ask questions. They think critically. Our unique projects spark a child’s natural sense of wonder. Our playful staff provide a safe space for kids to experiment, build, discover and create. Your child will come home so excited, we bet you’ll learn a thing or two yourself!
92% of parents report their child taught a family member something they learned.
Confidence
When kids build confidence, they challenge themselves. They express themselves creatively. They are happier. Each curriculum builds on what campers learned the previous day. Our enthusiastic staff heaps on tons of positive reinforcement when kids give their best effort, use imagination, take risks and rock their camp spirit. Watch your kids shine at camp, at home, and in the community.
98% of parents surveyed say their kids were proud of the projects they created.
Kindness
When kids show kindness, special things happen. They form new friendships. They build trust in others. Our caring staff, hands-on projects, and outdoor games foster cooperation, communication skills, and community spirit. We even dedicate a specific time to team building each day. We make the world a better place — one camp day at a time.
95% of parents surveyed would recommend Camp Edmo to friends or colleagues.
Visit our Edmo Vibe Game page to see how we turn curiosity, confidence & kindness into a game!
- Camper Age: Your child must be at least 5 years of age by June 1 or entering Kindergarten in the fall to come to camp.
- Ratios: We maintain a camper:staff ratio of 8:1 during most camp activities. For younger groups the camper:staff ratio can be 6:1…especially when activities involve tying knots, cutting, gluing, or glitter…definitely glitter.
- Groups: Campers are grouped with kids their own age. Groups are generally 10-20 kids.
- Buddy Requests: We will do our best to honor requests to group friends together. Sometimes circumstances like large age differences, “frienemy” behavior, or camper:staff ratios preclude us from being able to group kids together. We’ll give you a heads up if for some reason we can’t…especially the “frienemies.”
- Age Appropriate Activities: Although the weekly theme is the same for all age groups, the actual activities, concepts and degree of difficulty for completion vary according to the age group.
- Modified Activities: On rare occasions we may need to modify weekly activities due to weather, material availability, time constraints or the kid who spilled the entire jar of cabbage juice for the project.
- Balance: Every day we make time to hang out with our staff and camp friends during camp rallies, morning and afternoon breaks, lunch time, and some parts of outdoor recreation.
- Safety: CPR/First Aid certified staff members are present on-site at all times. Background checks are performed on all staff.
- Behavior: We’ll work with you if your child is acting out at camp. Unfortunately, if his/her behavior is detracting from the camp experience of kids and staff or compromising the safety of others, we may ask you to pick your child up from camp.
- Special Needs: If your child requires an aid at school, we ask that you please provide an aid for them at camp. If you reside in Marin County, you may contact SummerAde and they will individually pair your child with a qualified teen volunteer.
I just attended the family day presentation and the sheer joy and energy conveyed by the staff from the Camp Director to all the CIT’s was infectious…From the very friendly team who greet my daughters every morning to all of the songs, and games introduced to them this week; the entire experience has been a very engaging one for my daughters.”…Art Y., 3rd Grade Parent, St. Cecilia
My sons LOVE Camp Edmo and find it very engaging and enriching. I love that it adds an academic and artistic component that lots of camps don’t have – and in a very fun way. This year, with animation, camp was even more engaging and introduced the kids to a higher level of art and science than they had known. They’ve loved it and I’m thrilled at what they’ve learned.”…Michelle G., 3rd, St. Cecilia
Last night, Kate showed us the experiment from yesterday’s camp using milk, food coloring and dish soap. She loved acting like the Teacher, and she is planning to redo it for her cousins when we visit them… I really love that she was so excited to share her new knowledge with all of us.”

Both of my kids attended Edmo last year, and coming back, my older daughter especially loves the addition of your Animation sessions. Every day she comes home and goes into great detail about how they build sets and shape their clay figures to make them appear like they are moving.

Each of our museum and life skills partners helps us build the academic, physical, emotional or social skills that are essential in helping children become successful adults. Each partner trains our staff on their respective area of expertise so that your child’s camp experience will be the most enriching one possible.
Each of our museum partners helps in the design and staff training for the hands-on activities we feature in our programs. Thanks to our collaboration with these incredible institutions, we’ve created our award-winning summer camps, Camp Edmo and Camp EdTech, as well as our School Year Programs. You probably know them, but in case you don’t, we’d love to introduce you to some of our museum friends.
The California Academy of Sciences
The Cal Academy’s mission – to explore, explain and protect the natural world – extends to all corners of the institution; from a research expedition in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, to a teacher training program in a California classroom, to an interactive game on the museum exhibit floor.
The California Academy of Sciences designs the hands-on activities for the natural science weeks at Camp Edmo and leads our Science Instructor curriculum trainings. Become a member of the Academy here.
MOCHA
Since 1988, MOCHA has encouraged hands-on learning in the arts and has promoted the arts as a way to help children of all backgrounds develop as healthy, resourceful and involved citizens. MOCHA promotes the arts as an integral part of strong, vibrant communities. They provide opportunities for children to explore their creativity, design, implement and advocate for hands-on arts education programs, and emphasize outreach to children and families from low-income communities. The mission of MOCHA is to ensure that the arts are a fundamental part of the lives of all children.
MOCHA provides art activities to compliment the science projects for all of Camp Edmo’s Arts & Science themes and trains our Art Instructors on how to lead the projects with kids.
Children’s Creativity Museum
The Children’s Creativity Museum is an interactive art and technology museum for kids. The museum’s mission is to nurture the 3C’s of 21st-century skills – Creativity, Collaboration and Communication – in all youth and families. The Children’s Creativity Museum transforms the way kids learn. They move from the conventional approach of play to one of invention, shifting the focus from media consumption to media production. This approach encourages kids to imagine, create and share. They also offer programs for educators and parents who play a critical role in building a solid foundation for lifelong learning and creativity.
The Children’s Creativity Museum aids in the design and Instructor training of our weekly Animation camp sessions for both Camp Edmo and Camp EdTech. Become a member of the Children’s Creativity Museum here.
Exploratorium
The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art and human perception founded in 1969. The Exploratorium’s mission is to create a culture of learning through innovative environments, programs and tools that help people nurture their curiosity about the world around them.
From Summer 2004-2011 the Exploratorium was directly involved in the design of hands-on science activities for Camp Edmo’s Arts & Science themes and led professional development training for Camp Edmo Science Instructors on how to most effectively teach kids through hands-on activities. Edventure More continues to employ the curriculum and methodology developed over the eight year partnership in our programs today.
Each of our life skills partners contributes to children’s development by teaching physical, emotional or social skills essential in helping children become successful adults. Our partners teach us, so our staff can then bring what they’ve learned to camp.

Kimochis…Toys with Feelings Inside

Kimochi (KEY.MO.CHEE) means “feeling” in Japanese. When kids can communicate their feelings effectively, they develop positive social and emotional skills that lead to lasting friendships and success in academics and all aspects of life. Kimochis…Toys With Feelings Inside® are playful tools that can help families (even camp “families”) identify and express feelings; solve behavioral problems; communicate openly; resolve conflicts; and create closer connections.
Kimochis trains our camp staff to lead play-based games with campers that increase their emotional awareness and intelligence. These games are typically led in Team Time, but the emotional vocabulary the kids learn are used throughout the camp day to resolve behavior issues or conflicts between campers.
To learn more about Kimochis, be sure to check them out on their website.
Let’s Go Chipper!™
Let’s Go Chipper!™ Into the Great Outdoors. Let’s Go Chipper is an eco-educational app, DVD and book series that playfully teaches good character and a love for the environment. Based on 21st Century learning principals, the Let’s Go Chipper series is correlated with an emphasis on science and the environment, arts & literature, and building social and emotional skills.
Children follow Chipper, an overly curious city squirrel and his sidekick, Paisley, on adventures into the great outdoors. Meeting animals and visiting habitats, Chipper and Paisley excite, engage, and educate young children about the wonders of nature and the importance of taking care of the environment while living a healthy lifestyle. Music and humor are infused in stories featuring Bruce, a silly and slimy banana slug; Sally a feisty salmon leading Chipper and friends on an underwater adventure. Elroy, the wise Egret, and the entire cast join together to teach kids to participate in the home and community in the just released book, Helping Hands.
Let’s Go Chipper workbooks and activity guides supplement our Camp Edmo and Edmo in the Park natural science curriculum and nature excursions times.

Playworks
Playworks is a national non-profit organization that transforms schools by providing play and physical activity at recess and throughout the school day. Through their on-site direct service and trainer-led professional development workshops, Playworks restores valuable teaching time, reduces bullying, increases physical activity, and improves the school and learning environment.
Playworks’ model integrates the physical, social and emotional aspects of play into the day. They are the only organization in the country to send enthusiastic, trained adult program coordinators into low-income schools, where they enhance and transform recess and play into a positive experience that helps kids and teachers get the most out of every learning opportunity.
Playworks leads outdoor recreation training for our Instructors and Counselors so that campers can continue to build valuable life skills like teamwork, problem solving, cooperation and kindness through outdoor play.

Need to get to work early? We understand. By 8am our staff is already hard at work helping our campers make new friends, do arts & crafts projects, play games and plan special activities that relate to our weekly themes.
Be greeted by name…with a high five…by a professional staff member…dressed in a mermaid costume or a Viking hat. In a hurry? Just pull up and we’ll open the door for you. In no rush? Park your car, come right in and shake your counselor’s fin.

It’s not camp without outdoor fun & run around time! Except, we put an Edmo twist on our daily Recreation games. We weave in themes of confidence, teamwork, problem solving and leadership so that kids are actually learning about themselves while they play. Imagine that! Some of our favorites include: Leap of Courage, Cooperative Stunts, Group Juggling, Capture the Flag, Wet & Wild Relays, and Disco Dancing Stretches…that’s right, we said “disco.” There’s an art and a science to it!
Here teams work together on “campy” things like cheers, banners, lanyards, games, skits and other “choice time” activities. It’s a time to really get to know the other kids in your group, your counselor, and build a team identity. Then it’s time to show the whole camp how you rock the Edmo Vibe at AM and PM rally contests every day! But that’s not all! At least once a week, we also lead kids in SMILE projects that encourage anonymous acts of kindness and recognizing others in their group for doing nice things. Curious about SMILE projects? Learn more here:
Did you “Stump the Camp Director”? Did you earn a “Slorg the Slug” card? Did you earn a new Superstar button? Do you know what I’m talking about? You will if you’re at the Afternoon Rally! The whole camp comes together to remember all we did that day, show off our team cheers and recognize our friends for all the awesomeness they showed that day.
Again, you can pull up or walk up, whichever you fancy. Either way we’ll make a point to let you know something special about your child’s day in word and writing. Look out for our daily “Give Me More” sheet detailing what kids learned at camp, what to look forward to tomorrow, and suggested activities, books, websites, museum exhibitions and more fun ways to keep the curiosity going at home!

If you can’t get out of work early or your kids just can’t get enough Edmo, join us for Extended Care! Campers rotate between outdoor games, indoor crafts and extra science projects. You can rest or work easy knowing your kids are in good hands until you pick them up.
Time to start art! Our arts projects complement our science experiments so campers learn a different perspective on the same great theme! Our “state-of-the-art” Art Instructors bring a wealth of teaching experience in addition to on-site training by the Museum of Children’s Art. Each weekly theme features a mix of mediums like collage, painting, sculpture, decoupage and recycled art to keep the creativity flowing!
