Rachel Pleis – Camp Director
Rachel Pleis is excited to return for her second year as a Camp Director! Rachel is a Southern California transplant, born and raised in Ventura County. Rachel received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from UC-San Dieg. At School, Rachel was most inspired by the coursework in her two minors, Public Service and Education Studies, her reason for pursuing a career in education. Following her graduation from UCSD, Rachel began a Masters program in Education at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. As part of her Master’s program, she spent two years teaching middle school science at an inner city school in New Orleans, Louisiana through the Americorps program. In addition to receiving her Master’s degree, she received her Single Subject Teaching Credential in Biological Sciences through the program. Before moving to Northern California, Rachel returned to San Diego where she gained experience as a third grade homeroom teacher. She currently teaches science for 4th – 8th grades at a school in Saratoga. Additionally, Rachel is working on her Doctorate in Organization and Leadership, as well as her Administrative Credential, at the University of San Francisco. In her free time, Rachel enjoys coaching girl’s basketball, advising her school’s robotics team, and spending time with her dog, Ernie, and her cat, Diego, while exploring Northern California.
Edventure More’s vision and mission are very important to me because I love seeing children have fun and learn at the very same time. I am excited to be a catalyst for the camp vibe and meet the campers who are inspired to learn, have fun, and be a part of a great summer experience!”
Rebekah Pleis – Art and Science Instructor
Rebekah (Rekah) Pleis is so excited to be back for another year with Camp Edmo! Rebekah graduated magna cum laude from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BFA in Studio Art. She has a passion for fiber arts leading to her organizing knitting groups, creating charity knitting projects and teaching beginners how to knit and crochet. Rebekah can’t wait to share her love for imagination and creativity with all this summer’s edmo-dians. She loves to watch movies, read, knit, ride her bike and play with her dog, Sir Frederick Walton.
I so look forward to being at camp again!! I love meeting new people and participating in awesome activities and can’t wait to experience the joy of learning with others. The combination of art and science at Camp Edmo is so interesting and I am excited to be a part of each child’s discovery.”
Derek Tow – Counselor
This is Derek’s first year at Camp Edmo as a camp counselor. He currently goes to school in Pomona, California studying Biotechnology and Chemistry. Derek has a passion for science and technology. His childhood dream was to work inside a laboratory concocting chemicals and watching reactions. Because of his interests, Derek has a lot of experience with science and media camps much like Camp Edmo! Deep down however, Derek is a rock musician. He has played guitar for over 7 years and has been classically trained on the piano. Derek loves to share his knowledge with other people so he is incredibly excited to meet all of the new campers. His goal this summer with Edventure More is to inspire campers to learn while having fun at the same time!
When I attended summer camps, the silly camp counselors were always the best part. They always knew what to say in every situation and are never out of energy to motivate campers. I am so excited to have the opportunity to be one of those awesome camp counselors. This summer is going to be great!”
